However I try it, the dates just appear as red exclamation points.

The red exclamation points you’re seeing during your CSV import could indicate an issue with the file format, Info2208.

QuickBooks Sole Trader requires CSV files to follow a specific structure to import. You can resolve this by making a few adjustments to your Excel file before saving it as a CSV. Ensuring the correct column headers, consistent date formatting, and clean data will help avoid import errors and get your transactions uploaded smoothly.

Here are the key changes you can make to your Excel file to get a successful import:

  1. Choose between these two QuickBooks importing formats: a 3-column layout, which includes Date, Description, and Amount, or a 4-column layout that consists of Date, Description, Credit, and Debit.
  2. Please ensure that you consistently use the dd/mm/yyyy format for every date in the column.
  3. Remove the word “amount” from Credit and Debit.
  4. Leave any cells in Amount, Credit, or Debit that only contain zero.
  5. Clean the Description column by removing any numbers or codes.

If you’re using a Mac, please save your file in the Windows CSV format before importing, as QuickBooks Sole Trader requires this format for proper file recognition and to avoid import errors.

For additional details on formatting your CSV for QuickBooks imports, you can refer to this official QuickBooks resource article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks.

If you have confirmed your file meets these criteria and the issue persists, I recommend clearing the browser’s cache and cookies. Outdated or corrupted files stored in the browser can interfere with the importing process. Also, please ensure you're using a supported and up-to-date browser, as this improves both performance and security when working with the program.
