Where is your company located? US or Canada?

Hi, devoplett.

Your company’s home currency determines the account categories in QuickBooks Online during initial setup. Changing the home currency afterward, especially when the Multicurrency feature is turned off, won’t update the currencies of existing account categories.

Did you accidentally sign up for QuickBooks Online under the United States (US) region instead of Canada? If so, you can cancel your current subscription and subscribe to a new account for the Canadian (CA) region. For reference, here’s an article: Cancel your subscription.

To set up a QuickBooks Online account for Canada, follow these steps:

  1. Visit QuickBooks Canada Pricing.
  2. Select Buy now & save or Free trial for 30 days, then choose a plan that best fits your business needs.
  3. Click Trial or Choose plan.
  4. Select Continue without payroll.
  5. Click Continue checkout.
  6. You’ll be prompted to create an Intuit account or sign in.
If you want to use your existing account, click Sign In next to Already have an account?
  7. Enter your login credentials and complete the setup of your business information.

If you don’t want to subscribe to a new account, you can enable the Multicurrency feature in your current account. Enabling this feature will allow you to create categories and transactions using multiple currencies. For detailed instructions, check out this article: Set up and use Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online.
