Question

Former accountant's mobile is on our Intuit account; QB Desktop sign-in sends code to him. He's left. How do we recover access and change the phone number?

If the account was set up under your name and email, but your accountant added their phone number to your Intuit account as a verification contact or backup phone number, use your email to recover your access.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Intuit sign-in page.
  2. Select I forgot my user ID or Password.
  3. Enter your email address.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Choose the email to receive your verification code.
  6. Check your email for the code. (Open your email in a new browser tab. Do not close the sign-in page tab.)
  7. Enter the code on the sign-in page and hit Continue.
  8. Follow the prompts to reset your password or sign in.

Once done, you can remove the phone number there under the Sign-in & security window.

However, if you cannot access your registered email, you must verify your identity by submitting a photo of a valid ID. Follow option 2: Use the account recovery form in this article: Recover your Intuit account if you can't sign in.

On the other hand, if the accountant set up the Intuit account using their own credentials (their email, their phone), please follow the guidance in this article: Request to be designated as the primary admin or contact in QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online.
