How to run a simple income report by category?

When you say Income report by category, do you mean by account? If yes, you can run the Profit & Loss. Then, customize it to only show income. Here's how:

1. Go to the Reports menu.
2. Select Profit & Loss.
3. Once you opened the report, click the Customize button.
4. In the Filter section, choose income in the Distribution Account field.
5. Make sure the report date is set up correctly.
6. Then, click Run report.
   

In the chart of accounts, you can run a report on each account separately if you want. Go back to the homepage, and select Accounting in the left panel. Look for the account and click Run report under the Action column.
