I can share some more information about the Balance Sheet report in QuickBooks Online. The default sorting of the accounts shown on the report is set alphabetically, which is what you're seeing.
The option to rearrange the order of the rows or columns is currently unavailable at the moment. However, you can do this by exporting the report into a worksheet to get the sorting you need. Just click the Export icon to transfer the information in Excel.

SO 5 YEARS LATER THE OPTION TO RUN A REPORT BY ACCOUNT NUMBER IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. WHO USES ALPHA SORTING IN 2025. WHY WOULD WE GO TO THE BOTHER OF CORRECTLY USING ACCOUNT NUMBERS IF THEY ARE NOT BEING USED BY THE SOFTWARE?
