I'd be please to assist you, @sealingpro85

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop, and you're moving your QuickBooks to a new computer, you'll need to create a backup copy and restore it after the installation process. Then, you can now start installing QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Download QuickBooks Desktop, then select Yes to All.
  2. Select Next, then agree to the Software License Agreement, then select Next.
  3. Enter your License and Product numbers, then select Next.
  4. Select the type of installation for the computer.
  5. Select where you will be using QuickBooks.
  6. Choose a new install location or select Next to install to the default directory.
  7. Select Install, then select Open QuickBooks to get started.

For full details about this process, refer to this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you're using QuickBooks Online, you can simply open a browser to your new computer, then log in to your QuickBooks account.

Let me know if you have any concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you out.

How can I transfer my Quickbooks software from my old computer to my new computer if the old computer is frozen?

I appreciate you raising your concern here in this thread, @Bud 69.

I have here some insights to share about your concern. You have the option to switch your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) program to a new computer without accessing the old one by downloading the purchased product through the QuickBooks installer. Let me guide you through the steps on how:

  1. Visit QuickBooks Desktop Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Enter the necessary information to help you search for your purchased program.

However, if you don't know your product key and license number, I recommend logging in to your CAMPs account to help you download your product and conveniently find your license number. Or you can use the License Look-Up Tool to retrieve the information.

Moreover, I'll also share this article that can serve as your reference to find out what your computer needs for the best experience in QBDT: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

I'm looking forward to getting this sorted out. Feel free to leave a reply if you have additional QuickBooks-related queries. The Community team always has your back. Have a good one.

Old computer broke so trying to install QB on new machine just like I did for Quicken for personal finances.  System says my Product Code is no good, but a system email to me confirms that it is correct Product ID on the most recent license when I purchased disks for Desktop Pro 2019? Also message states that I am already using QB, but that machine is broken, so no longer usable.  Please reply to [email address removed] or [email address removed]

Thank you!

Hello there! The Community is always looking forward to the success of your business with QuickBooks. Thanks for sharing your concern with us, Bill.

Your attempts to debug the installation of your QBDT on a different computer are greatly appreciated. I am aware of the time-consuming aspect of program issues. Since your current computer is broken, I advise contacting our Support department to obtain a validation code that will allow you to install the software on another machine.

Moreover, the software QuickBooks Desktop year 2020 and below was already discontinued. Thus, you won't have access to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services through your QuickBooks Desktop 2019. For more details, visit this article: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.

I've also included these resources to help you manage your QuickBooks Desktop moving forward:

If you need assistance with any QuickBooks-related challenges or have more queries, don't hesitate to tag me in the comments area. I'm always here to help you, Bill. Take care!

Hello and thanks for your reply!  I know 2020 has been discontinued, I have been paying online to continue using updated versions since I purchased the disks for 2019 version 4 years ago.  The automated system sent me 4 different account numbers and Product ID's going back more years but the numbers from the 2019 were the most recent but system denied the product code.  I am a basic small user just managing a few rental properties so don't need any of the online or enhanced features, just basic QB.  I back up my file on a thumb drive every month after reconciling, and that is working just fine.  I guess I will have to phone the helpline when they are open on Monday to get a code to install on new computer.  Thanks again for your reply!  Bill Foster

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Join23. I've got steps on how you can find the license code and product number so you can completely install the QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer.

As mentioned above, your product information is in the original purchase confirmation email. This is done if you purchase a digital version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) from our website. However, if you bought the program from a retail store, look for this label on the original packaging next to the UPC Code.

Then, if you registered your product, you can always get your info online. You can visit your account management portal (CAMPS) to get your product and license number.

In case you're unable to locate your license number or didn’t register your product, use the License Look Up tool to retrieve the information.

If you can't find the information after following the steps above, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. They have the tools to access your account and look at the product information of your purchased QuickBooks Desktop and other related products.

After you get the details that you need, you may open this article to see steps on how to install, activate, and update the program: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Fill me in if you need further help managing your QBDT. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand, Join23. Stay safe!

Hello and welcome to the Community, Caruso. Let me help you with your concern.

If you’re using QuickBooks Desktop and need to transfer it to a new computer, you can start by creating a backup of your data. Once QuickBooks is installed on the new computer, you can restore the backup file and continue working seamlessly.

Here’s how to move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer:

  1. From QuickBooks, go to the File menu, choose Utilities, and then click Move QuickBooks to another computer.
  2. Press I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
  3. Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.
  4. Insert the USB flash drive into the new computer. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
  5. Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
  6. Enter the password you created, then select Let's go.
  7. Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish.

After completing these steps, QuickBooks Desktop will be successfully installed on your new computer.

For the next steps, you can refer to this article: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer.

Once QuickBooks Desktop is moved to your new computer, you can transfer your company files to continue working efficiently.

Here’s how:

  1. Begin by installing QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer.
  2. Create a backup of your company file on your original computer by following the steps provided above in the article.
  3. Give the backup file a unique name to make it easy to identify and avoid overwriting other files.
  4. Save the backup file in an easily accessible location, such as your Windows desktop.
  5. Transfer the backup file to your new computer using a flash drive, external device, or network sharing if both computers are connected.
  6. Restore the backup file on your new computer, ensuring you use the uniquely named file.
  7. Download the latest payroll tax table if you use payroll after restoring your file.

If you're using QuickBooks Online, you can easily access your account by opening a browser on your new computer and logging in.

If you need further guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out by replying to this conversation.
