Thanks for reaching out to the Community, Bookkeeper357.

If your credit card account in QuickBooks doesn't match your bank statements, there's a few things you'll want to check. In the end, the difference between your two records should be $0.00. If it's not, or if you've reconciled an account before and its ending balance changed, I'll guide you through how to fix problems so you can finish reconciling.

Here's what can cause ending balance issues:

  • Someone entered an incorrect ending balance at the start of the reconciliation.
  • Someone edited or deleted transactions that were already reconciled.
  • There are missing or duplicate transactions in QuickBooks.
  • Someone entered transactions into QuickBooks that hasn't cleared your bank yet.
  • Someone made an adjustment to your last reconciliation with a journal entry.

When you're ready to begin, you'll initially need to review the opening and beginning balances if you haven't already. Confirm these are correct before looking for other issues.

Next, you can begin looking for changed, deleted, or added transactions with your Reconciliation Discrepancy, Missing Checks, and/or Transaction Detail reports.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Hover over Banking. If you'd like to run your Transaction Detail report, hover over Custom Reports, then select Transaction Detail.
  3. Click Reconciliation Discrepancy or Missing Checks while hovering the cursor over Banking.
  4. Choose an account you're reconciling.
  5. Select OK.

Review your report(s) for any discrepancies. Look for any transactions that aren't on the bank statement. If they aren't, it shouldn't be on your reconciliation. In the event changes were made, you can speak with the person who made them. There could be a reason for the changes. Once you know, edit relevant transactions as needed.

After reviewing your reports, you can look for reconciliation adjustments and finish reconciling.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
