We are running QB 18 on a server that we host. I am working with an outside accountant who only has QB online. How can i share my file with him or can i extend our QB Enterprise to the web?  We need to be server hosted due to a sync between our ERP platform and QB.

Hello @TJDaly,

You can ask your accountant to install the QuickBooks Enterprise 18 to let him/her work with the accounting needs in your business, Let me show you how your accountant can install the software.

  1. Download the QuickBooks Enterprise 2018 at this link: Download QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Once the file is downloaded completely, the installation will automatically start. If it doesn't, double-click the installer file to proceed.
  3. Select Yes to All then hit Next.
  4. Mark the Software License Agreement then click Next.
  5. Enter the License and Product numbers, then hit Next.
  6. Choose a type of installation and the location where to save QuickBooks.
  7. Tap Install.

Once done, you can create an accountant's copy of your company file and send it to your accountant. Learn more with the steps outlined in this article: Create an Accountant's Copy of your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, you can also share this helpful article with your account for the steps about how to access your company file in an accountant's copy: Use an Accountant's Copy working file.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comments below. Stay safe!

@TJDaly

As another option, you may deploy a private cloud and your accountant will access your host by internet connection anytime she/he needs.

Hi there, baynax. I'm here to get the help you need in installing QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2018.

Before we get started, please know that QuickBooks Desktop 2018 is no longer supported since it was already discontinued last May 31, 2021. This means that you won't have access to live technical support or any other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop. Additionally, you won't receive the latest critical security patches and updates. However, you can still use QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2018 for basic accounting functions.

To begin the installation, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page to get the download link for your version of QuickBooks.
  2. In the Standard setup section, select your country, product, and version.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Click the Download green button.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps.

If you want to upgrade your product to a newer version, you can visit this article for a guide: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop. It provides step by step process to ensure your company file works in new versions of QuickBooks Desktop.

If there's anything else you need help with in installing QuickBooks Desktop, let me know in the comments below, baynax. We're more than happy to further assist.

Hello,

I was able to get all the way up to communicating with the CEO of Intuit online about three years ago concerning the issues I was having in upgrading to any newer edition of Quickbooks from my Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions - Accountant Edition 18.0 software.  In the past since 1995 when I first started using Quickbooks, I could always upgrade to a newer software no matter what name it was given.  It was just that whatever newer software I was buying into had a limit as far as what features were offering from before, oftentimes many new features and improvements were made automatically, with some having less report features than before, or I would buy a Premier edition and get the full features.  Sadly, it has changed, and I think that Quickbooks no longer supports small businesses due to its increasing prices on its software.  Being able to afford business accounting software for the new business is way out there for most now.  The CEO was very hands off and said to talk with support.  I had already talked with support about this issue, but there have been some changes in the last few years, so I'm trying again before I really get more angry.  Maybe at least I made a dent in solving the problem, we'll see, but maybe not.  What are my options now?  Is the new Quickbooks online able to accept any past qb files, and is this the best option without losing any past data?
