Question

“This company was accidentally set up with USD as the home currency. The business operates in The Bahamas and needs BSD as its home currency.

Multicurrency has already been enabled, so the home currency is now locked. We are still in the initial setup/cleanup stage. Can you help us reset the company or transfer the existing subscription to a new company file with BSD as the home currency, so the client does not have to pay for two subscriptions?”

Did you convert data from QB Desktop?

In QuickBooks Online, enabling Multicurrency permanently locks your home currency and can't be turned off or reset. Since your company file is still in the initial setup stage, the options will depend on your subscription plan.

If you're using QBO Plus, Essentials, or Advanced, you may be able to purge your company data. This will remove the existing data, disable Multicurrency, and let you set up the company again with BSD as your home currency.

To purge your company data:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. For example, if the URL displays as https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, modify it to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will display a summary of the items scheduled for deletion.
  5. Type the word "YES" in the box, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

If you're using QBO Simple Start, the purge option is not available. Instead, cancel your current subscription and create a new company file with BSD as your home currency to start fresh without paying for two accounts.

Before deleting or restarting your company data, export any reports, lists, or information you want to keep. The purge process permanently removes company data, and you will need to set up the company again and re-enter or import any required information.
