I acknowledge that the primary admin plays a crucial role in an organization, @kit10.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), only the primary admin can directly transfer this role to another user. However, if they are unavailable, other users may submit a request instead. As a security measure, please note that this process requires documentation to verify that you are the rightful owner of the QBO account.

You will need a permission letter from any other majority owners, business partners, nonprofit directors or presidents, or estate executors, stating that you are being appointed as the organization’s new primary admin.

You can check this article for more information on submitting a request and its prerequisites: Request to be the primary admin or contact.

You are encouraged to reply to this thread if you have further questions regarding QBO.

I am having the same issue but in reverse -- we are also a non profit and I am the Primary Admin. but QB Online provides no process or help on how to transfer my role to my successor. Our CPA firm does not know how to do it either. I was told there is a link somewhere in QB Online for me to send to my successor to enable them to become a user. But so far I have been unable to find that link.

Hello there, hlambert3401. You must first add the user as a Company admin in the Manage users section to be able to transfer the Primary Admin role. Once added, the user will receive an invitation from QuickBooks. They will need to accept this invitation by clicking on "Let’s go!" to complete the process.

Once they have joined, refresh your page, return to Manage users, and locate their name. Under the Actions column, select Make primary admin and confirm the change. Then, sign out of QuickBooks. The transition is seamless, and the new primary admin does not need to take any further action.

I attached a screenshot as your visual reference:

If you have other concerns in QBO, please let me know. I'm just around to help.

@kit10

As a last resort, you can purchase a third-party service to migrate your data to a new QBO account.
