Question

can I change the ending balance of a previous completed reconciliation from a positive to a negative amount?

I have by accident used a positive amount instead of a negative amount as ending balance and only realized it when I wanted to start the new reconciliation. QuickBooks added an adjustment to make the recon in balance. How do I change the amount nowto a negative amount so that the opening balance of my new reconciliation will be the correct negative amount.

Welcome to the Community, Martie. Once you have completed a reconciliation for an account, you cannot change its previous ending balance directly. You'll have to undo the entire reconciliation.

Since you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can only remove transaction from reconciliation one at a time, I recommend reaching out to your accountant. QBO Accountant have the option to bulk undo your reconciliations. They'll also be the ones to handle the adjustment if it's needed to be offset or deleted.
