Can I have my personal and my little hobby business on the same account or do I need to have separate QuickBooks accounts?

Hi there, @chesternisley95-! Although this thread has been inactive for a while, it's a question many people still have, and I wanted to share a new way to handle this.

While QuickBooks is designed to have one business per account, the newly launched QuickBooks Free plan is a perfect solution for managing a "little hobby business" separately from your personal finances at no cost. This allows you to follow the best practice of keeping your records distinct without needing a paid subscription. Here are a few ways this new option helps you stay organized:

  • Automatically sort your business and personal transactions to ensure your books stay accurate from day one.
  • Send professional invoices and give your customers flexible ways to pay, so you can get paid faster.
  • Run profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and account summaries to always know exactly where your hobby’s cash flow stands.

You can find all the details to see if this fits your needs here: QuickBooks Free.

I hope this update helps anyone else who finds this thread while looking for a way to keep their hobby and personal finances separate. Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

One QBO account is for one financial file. Consider using QB Desktop to manage multi files.
