In QuickBooks Online, you can’t permanently delete a bank account with transaction history, as doing so would affect your financial records. Instead, disconnect the bank feed and mark the account as inactive in the Chart of Accounts to hide and protect your past data.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Disconnect the CIBC account

  1. Navigate to All apps > Accounting > Bank Transactions.
  2. Find the CIBC account tile and select the pencil/edit icon.
  3. Select Edit account details, check the Disconnect this account on save box, and click Save.

Step 2: Make the Account Inactive

  1. Go to the Gear icon  > Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the CIBC account and click the drop-down arrow next to Account history.
  3. Select Make inactive, then click Yes to confirm.

Once inactive, this account will no longer appear in your reports, transactions, or dropdown menus. If you ever need to view it again, you can easily restore its visibility at any time.
