We value your time in reaching out to the Community, JJohnson.

By default, a pop-up alert for inactivity appears after a certain period. However, you can adjust this time-out duration from 1 to 3 hours.

To modify the locking duration in QuickBooks Online, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Click Edit ✎ from the Other preferences section.
  4. Choose 12, or 3 hours from the Sign me out if inactive for ▼ dropdown menu.
  5. Click Save, then Done.

Moreover, the system may only recognize the default settings of your browser. Cached pages or browsers can cause the settings not to load correctly. As an alternative, I recommend using private browsing mode to ensure a smoother experience dealing with unexpected behavior in QuickBooks.

To open a supported browser, use these shortcut keys:

  • Safari: Command + Option + P
  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox or Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P

Additionally, refer to this article for further information on how to customize the settings of your QBO program: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.

If you have further questions about settings preference-related concerns in QuickBooks Online, please feel free to reach out. I'm here to help. Have a great day!
