Migrating files from QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2015 Desktop to QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 needs to upgrade to the closer version before converting it to the 2021 version. It is to ensure to avoid file damage. It won't migrate when each version has a huge gap.
You'll need to upgrade your company file in 3 years gap version at a time. Then, restore the file in between. Let's first create a backup file to make sure that the data will be saved before doing the process. Once done, follow these steps:
Make sure all users are logged out of your company file.
Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
Go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
Click Restore a backup copy and then click Local backup.
Browse your computer for your company file. Then, select the file and open it.
Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
Secure a backup file of your QBD 2015 data and restore it on QBD 2021. Otherwise, you may need upgrade your file on the trial license QBD 2018 or 2019 prior to opening it on QBD 2021. Contact us in private and we may share those trial codes.
