We can deactivate the account in two-ways, kenoshalaw.

If it's connected to the online banking feature, we can disconnect it on the Banking page. Just a heads up, if the account has transaction, the system will make an adjustment. Let me guide you with these steps:

  1. From the Banking tab, select Banking.
  2. Select the account you want to delete, and then click the edit (pencil) icon.
  3. Click  Edit account info.
  4. In the Account window, select Disconnect this account on save.
  5. Click on Save and Close.

Afterwards, you can delete it on the list.

  1. Click Accounting, then go to Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the account.
  3. Click the View register drop-down arrow, then choose Delete.
  4. Select Yes.

If it's not connected to the online banking feature, here's how to deactivate it:

  1. On the Chart of Accounts page, select the account you want to deactivate.
  2. Click the View register drop-down under ACTION.
  3. Select Make inactive.
  4. Click Yes.

I've also added this reference on how QuickBooks handles a deleted account: Delete an account on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.
