How do I delete a CSV import and remove duplicate transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed?

Hello,

I'm using the web based version of Quick Books Self employed. I was having no problems at all until I discovered a batch of missing transactions in the middle of the year. I decided to upload a .csv file of these transaction, however I used the wrong file and uploaded the whole year. I now have numerous duplicate transactions. Can I delete this whole year and start again and if so how do I do this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Tracey

You can delete the entire CSV import in QuickBooks Self-Employed and start fresh — and the process takes just a few clicks. One important heads-up before you begin: this action is permanent and can't be undone, so make sure you have the correct CSV file ready to re-import before you delete.

Step 1: Delete the incorrect CSV import

This removes all the transactions that came in from the wrong file, without affecting any other data in your account.

  1. Open QuickBooks Self-Employed in a web browser.
  2. Select the profile ⚙ icon and then Imports.
  3. Select the bank account you imported the CSV file into.
  4. In the Files imported section, find the file you want to remove and select the trash icon next to it.

This deletes all the transactions from that specific CSV file only. Your other transactions and data stay untouched.

Step 2: Import the correct file

Now that the duplicates are cleared out, you can bring in just the transactions you actually need. A few things to keep in mind before importing:

  • If your account is connected to online banking, QuickBooks Self-Employed already downloads your recent transactions automatically. Only import a CSV for the older transactions that aren't in the download window, not for the full year — otherwise you'll end up with duplicates again.
  • Don't use both auto-download and CSV import for the same time period, since this creates duplicate entries.

When you're ready to import:

  1. Select the profile ⚙ icon and then Imports.
  2. Select Import transactions.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to upload the correct CSV file.
  4. Select Import.
