I have taken over an account that is making duplicate Paypal entry withdrawals on my checking account. I have the deposit recorded correctly in the checking register but when I add the Paypal withdrawal to the Paypal register it creates a duplicate entry on the checking register.

Duplicate entries occur depending on how you've recorded the withdrawal transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @LD27. We'll provide more details to help you address your inquiry promptly.

Before we continue, could you provide more information about how you recorded the withdrawal transaction in your QuickBooks Online (QBO)? In this case, you'll want to ensure you entered it as an expense to avoid creating duplicate entries. That said, we recommend reviewing the details that you've added in the withdrawal transaction. This way, we can ensure everything reflects in their correct account.

I also recommend checking this page to help you deal with possible duplicate bank transactions: Exclude a bank transaction you downloaded into QuickBooks Online.

.it categorizes it as going to the checking account. it is not a transfer yet it shows up in the checking register as a duplicate deposit

Let's revisit how the PayPayl withdrawals were initially categorized, LD27.

To start, please know that money movement between your Checking account and your PayPal account will appear as a transfer and can affect both your Checking and PayPal register. Check out the PayPal transactions overview section of this article for more details: Use the PayPal Connector by QuickBooks app.

We can undo the transaction and categorize it correctly in the appropriate account. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Bank transactions page, and then App transactions.
  2. Click on the Reviewed tab.
  3. Find the miscategorized transaction and select Undo under the action column.

Once done, categorize the transaction again in the For review tab.

Also, please know that QuickBooks works as a receiving portal, it automatically records what we receive from your connected bank.
