Start with a manual update, since most Wells Fargo connection issues clear up on their own within a day or two. If it's still stuck after that, it's usually one of two things: your Wells Fargo login changed, or you're seeing a specific error code. We know it's frustrating when your books stall out over something on the bank's end, so here's how to work through it, step by step.
Step 1: Try a manual update
- Go to Bookkeeping, then Transactions, then Bank transactions.
- Select Update.
Most banks send new transactions to QuickBooks every 24 hours, so this alone often clears things up. If the download seems slow or stuck, sign in to the Wells Fargo website directly and check for a posted outage or maintenance notice. Bank-side outages usually clear within 24 to 48 hours, and your feed will resume automatically once that happens.
Step 2: Update your Wells Fargo login info in QuickBooks
If you've changed your username or password on Wells Fargo's website, QuickBooks needs the same updated info to keep syncing.
- Go to All apps, then Accounting, then Bank transactions.
- Select the account card for your Wells Fargo account.
- Select Edit, then Edit sign in info.
- Enter your updated login details, then select Save and connect.
Seeing "we can't find this account at your bank" or Error 324?
This means QuickBooks can no longer match your Wells Fargo account to what it has on file. It usually happens when account details change on the bank's end, like a new account number or a replacement card, or when you reconnect using different login credentials than the ones originally used to set up the connection.
- Go to All apps, then Banking, then Bank transactions.
- Find the account showing the error and select Fix now.
- Sign in with your current Wells Fargo credentials.
- When asked which accounts to share, choose All Accounts or Consent All, even if you only use one or two in QuickBooks. This keeps your other connections from breaking.
- Map the account back to your existing one in QuickBooks rather than creating a new one, so your transaction history and categorization rules stay intact.
If the account was closed or replaced at the bank, disconnect the old one first, then connect the new account fresh.
Still stuck after trying these? While it gets sorted, you can keep your books current by downloading a transaction file directly from Wells Fargo's website and uploading it into QuickBooks.
