Small Business Owners Need a “No” List Too

Sometimes, saying yes feels like the easiest way to keep customers happy and opportunities coming in. But there is also value in knowing when to say no.

Your business is your time, your energy, and your hard work. Protecting those things can be just as important as finding your next customer.

A “no” list does not have to be negative. Think of it as a list of things that simply do not work well for your business. Maybe you have decided not to take on rush projects without enough notice. Perhaps certain discounts no longer make sense, or there are services you would rather not offer because they take too much time for the return.

You might even decide that answering messages outside of business hours is something you want to limit. Having those boundaries can make it easier to focus on the customers, projects, and opportunities that are a better fit.

And sometimes, saying no today can create room for a much better yes tomorrow.

Take a few minutes this week to think about what you could comfortably remove from your plate. You may be surprised by how much time and energy it gives back to you.
