The customer absolutely comes first! Social media and websites mean nothing without a happy customer. Cater to your human relationships before anything else.
However... About 6 months into my business I had to take a big step back to really understand 2 things: what my purpose was (related to practice / business) and how values that related to my purpose translated to the types of projects I work on and the type of client I work with.
If your purpose and values are misaligned with the type of customers you are serving, I believe you will not be happy and not do your best work.
@BillJohnston I could not agree more. Values really are at the center for me - it's so important to not just attract customers, but make sure those you are attracting are aligned with who you are and what you're doing. Thanks for the reminder!
Great words of wisdom with your quote you shared. Besides customers being the heart of your business. I think your center of the universe ought to be a business model that makes it very easy to connect with your customers.
