Question

Is there training accessible anywhere on how to use the app? I have moved from Quickbooks self-employed and I'm struggling with this new app.

Any help would be appreciated. Specifically looking to find out how to view and categorise transactions linked to my bank from more than 3 months ago and how to mark set dates for processing an MTD return

Yes. If you’re looking for general training, our Get started with QuickBooks Online guide covers everything from signing in and setting up your company to connecting accounts.

In addition, to view and categorise older transactions, you'll need to manually download and import a statement file from your bank. When you link a bank account, most banks only feed the last 90 days of transaction history into QuickBooks automatically.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Download Bank Statement

  1. Log in to your online banking website.
  2. Navigate to your business account history and look for an option like Download, Export, or Statements.
  3. Choose CSV as the file format (QuickBooks requires CSV for manual statement uploads).
  4. Set a custom date range covering the period you need (e.g., further back than 90 days).
  5. Download and save the file to your computer.

Step 2: Upload the file into QuickBooks

  1. Go to All apps > Accounting, then Bank transactions.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to Link account and select Upload from file.
  3. Drag and drop your bank file, then map the columns (Date, Description, Amount) to match QuickBooks' fields.
  4. Once uploaded, categorise the transactions as needed.

Moreover, when processing MTD return dates, there’s no need to manually set or mark dates, as QuickBooks automatically syncs your specific reporting deadlines directly from HMRC once your account is connected. Just ensure you submit your quarterly updates before the designated deadline.

You can view your MTD for ITSA deadlines and obligations inside QuickBooks. For more information, feel free to visit these articles:
