Hello Mason,

Here are the most common reasons why you might be unable or delay in processing direct deposits in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

  • Incorrect Bank Account Information: Your employee's bank account or routing number may have been entered incorrectly.
  • Bank Maintenance or Issues: There may be ongoing maintenance or issues with the employee's bank or routing number.
  • Pay Date Falls on a Weekend or Holiday: Direct deposits are only processed on business days and will not go through on weekends or holidays.
  • Missed Payroll Submission Deadline: Payroll submitted after the 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST) cutoff will be processed on the next banking day.

If the issue is caused by the first or second reason mentioned above, you can expect the funds to be rejected by the bank and returned to your company’s account within 2-3 business days after the scheduled pay date.

However, if the direct deposit is still pending beyond the 5:00 PM PST cutoff time on the settlement date, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They have the necessary tools to perform a direct deposit trace and can investigate the root cause of the issue further.

I've also included these articles about managing your direct deposits, which may come in handy moving forward:
