Question

How do I edit payroll to reflect an employee that is paid by the day, not the hour and not salary?

New to QBO payroll. Imported employee has a rate/hr, but this should be rate/day. How do I fix it?

Welcome to the Community, Donna.

Currently, the daily rate for your employee's Pay type is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll. The available Pay types are Hourly, Salary, and Commission only.

For now, you can use the Hourly rate for their pay type and calculate the hourly rate by dividing the daily rate by the hours worked per day.

For example, if the employee earns $200 per day and works 8 hours, the hourly rate would be $25/hour. When running payroll, you'll enter the total hours worked for the pay period (such as 5 days × 8 hours = 40 hours), and the system will automatically calculate the correct gross pay by multiplying the hourly rate by the total hours.

Here's how to update your employee's pay rate:

  1. Navigate to the All apps menu.
  2. Click on Employees.
  3. From the employee List, select the specific employee.
  4. Scroll down, and click on the Pencil icon in the Base pay tile.

  5. From there, select the compensation type, and set the Rate per hour.

  6. Once done, click Save.

We also encourage you to submit your insights regarding daily pay rates to our product development team, so they can review this feature request and consider adding it in future updates. Your feedback helps us improve QBO Payroll to better meet your business needs.
