We want to ensure we can supply the information you need to address your current situation and turn off the prompt about filing payroll taxes in a specific state inside QuickBooks Online (QBO). If you mean the work location inside the program, please know there are things you need to consider before turning it off or making it inactive.
If you have an employee who lives and works in a different location, you'll want to verify if that employee is required or exempted from the taxes in that state. If your workers aren't excluded from those taxes, turning off or making the location inactive isn't necessary, and you'll have to pay the payroll taxes in that state. If the workers are exempted from those taxes, then you can turn off and delete the work location to stop the prompt inside the program. We'll gladly write down the steps to get you going:
Access your QuickBooks Online company.
On the left navigational bar, click the Gear icon.
Select Payroll Settings, and then click the Pencil icon on the Work locations section.
Locate the address that you want to make inactive, and then click Edit.
@mavoraart, feel free to inform us if you need further assistance or have any additional tasks you'd like to accomplish inside QuickBooks. We've got your back, and we'll help you out anytime. Stay safe, and have a good one.
