To split an employee’s salary between the Water and Sewer departments, you can use the Classes feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Vexeland.

This will allow you to allocate percentages of the employee's salary to each department during payroll processing. Let me guide you through the steps.

First, ensure class tracking is enabled and is set to "One to each row in transaction. Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings, click Account and Settings, and select Advanced.
  2. Under Categories, turn on Track classes, and choose "One to each row in transaction" from the dropdown.
  3. Click Save, then click Done.

Next, set up the Water and Sewer departments as Classes. Here's how to do it:

  1. Navigate Settings, click All list, and choose Classes.
  2. Click New and set up the Water and Sewer department.
  3. Hit Save.

Finally, you can split the employee’s salary when running payroll. Here's how:

  1. Go to My Apps, select Payroll, and click Run Payroll.

  2. Choose a pay schedule for this payroll and click Continue.
  3. Click Edit classes & projects and enter 50% in the Percentage field.
  4. Select the Sewer department under the Class column.
  5. Click Add split, enter 50%, and select the Water department from the dropdown.
  6. Once done, click Confirm.

Please note that this option is available for QBO Plus and Advanced subscriptions. If you are using QBO Essentials or Simple Start, you will need to upgrade  your subscription to access this feature.
