There's no delay in processing payroll checks, courtmhale.
If you choose Paper check as a payment method when running payroll, QuickBooks will automatically generate the check for you to print and give to your employees. It means that processing payroll payments by check won't take a day.

Thanks for posting a follow-up question here in this thread, courtmhale. I'm here to provide information about employees paychecks in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
QuickBooks sends notifications for your upcoming payday if you've enabled your auto payroll and will send an email again once the payroll is processed. However, you'll still need to check the auto-generated paychecks inside QuickBooks and view and print them from there.
Since your company doesn't print checks, you may issue a check for your employees directly from your bank. But before this, please know that you still need to run your payroll in QuickBooks to ensure accurate tax calculations.
If you've enabled auto payroll, we'll have to turn it off and then manually run your payroll. Let's follow the steps below.
Log in to your QBO account as primary admin.
Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
Click the Pencil icon on the Auto Payroll field.
Uncheck the enrolled employees with auto payroll.
Tap on Save changes.
Review everything, and once done, hit Done.
You may also consider using the direct deposit feature in QBO to pay your employees online. For more information, kindly review this link: Set up your company payroll for direct deposit.
