How to enter a one time 401k employer contribution to fix a missed payment from last year

My retirement plan manager said we need to make up a missed employer contribution for one employee for our 401k plan for last year. How do I enter the payment in Quickbooks, so that it will apply it to my employee correctly? The contribution is pre-tax if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the information, @SarahCO. Since this impacts last year’s wages and tax reporting, a payroll correction is needed. Please contact our Live Support team to handle this securely, as we can't process these sensitive updates here in the Community forum. Here's how:

  1. Select the Help icon.
  2. From the Search tab, enter your topic.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

Please refer to this article for more details about support availability: Get help with QuickBooks products and services.

Once resolved, you can find the updated transaction under the employee’s Paycheck List tab reflecting their corrected 401(k) contribution.

Feel free to respond if you have any questions or additional concerns. I'm always here to help!
