How to get access to change the unemployment Insurance sections of the state payroll taxes

I need to change the Unemployment Insurance Account number and I cannot access it. It keeps sending me to the employees and I do see a way to change it on the employee side. I have played with unemployment classes and it has not changed my access to that portion of the idaho tax info page.

I’ve run into that before in QBO Payroll, the state UI account fields are locked down in most cases. They’re not tied to the employee record, so adjusting classes or employee settings won’t help. Usually, you have to go through the Payroll Tax Settings page (Taxes - Payroll Tax - State Taxes - Idaho). If it’s still grayed out there, that means it’s restricted, and only Intuit support can update it on the backend. Annoying, but the quickest path is to call/chat support and ask them to unlock or replace the account number for you. I’ve had them fix it in a few minutes once I provided the state ID letter.

Hi @freese,

Whenever your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) account number changes, be sure to update it in your Payroll settings to keep your SUI tax liability accurate.

If you find the field is restricted and cannot be edited directly, as pointed out by TimotiSbr, please contact Payroll support to have it updated.

To reach Payroll support:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon.
  2. Go to the Search tab, then enter “Payroll support” in the search bar.
  3. Select Contact Us, then choose either the Chat or Callback option.

Before contacting them, we recommend checking their support hours to ensure timely assistance.

If you have any other questions or need further clarification, please feel free to ask here.

If the QBO  subscription has been inactive since 2018 and we are now re-subscribiung to start owner payroll with a new UI account, the UI is editable, can we proceed with new account number? Or do I need to contact support? I'm guessing it's able to be edited and will update because the account was made inactive many years ago? Thoughts?
