Hi there, Pjp99.

I’m glad you reached out. I know you usually pay employees through direct deposit, but everyone received paper checks this time, and you have no checks available. I understand that this is not what you want for your team. I’m here to help you resolve this issue and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

QuickBooks treats direct deposit and paper checks differently. If you print paper checks, it won’t automatically send the direct-deposit payments to your bank.

Before switching from a paper paycheck to direct deposit, first void the created paper paycheck to remove it from your payroll paycheck list and change the dollar amount to zero.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the All apps menu, select Payroll, then choose Employees.
  2. Select Paycheck list.

  3. Choose the affected paycheck, then select the dropdown arrow in the Action column and select Void Paycheck.
  4. Confirm your action chosen and select Save.

To change your paper paycheck to direct deposit and rerun payroll, please follow these steps:

  1. Go back to the Employees page.
  2. Click Run payroll and choose the pay schedule you want to run, then select Continue.
  3. Select or review the Pay period and Pay date.
  4. Click your employee, then select the dropdown below the Paper check to change the pay method to Direct deposit.

  5. Select Preview payroll.
  6. Click or review the QuickBooks Bank account to track your payroll.
  7. Choose Preview payroll details or Submit payroll.
  8. Once done, select Close.

Furthermore, if you want to upgrade your payroll system, explore QuickBooks Payroll's offers, which include sophisticated functionalities, including time tracking and quicker direct deposits that can significantly improve your business efficiency.

Should you require any further information or have any other payroll-related concerns or questions about changing payment method, please leave a comment. I'm always here to help. Have a good one.
