I'm trying to set up payroll and don't need health insurance or help with filing taxes but it won't allow me to set it up

Hello there, Gary. Are you using QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online? Also, could you please share the specific error message you’ve encountered?

If you’re referring to QuickBooks Desktop, please ensure that your service key and tax tables are up to date. In the meantime, you can run the Verify Data tool to check for issues within your company file by navigating to File > Utilities > Verify Data. If an error message appears, you can visit the QuickBooks Desktop support site for specific troubleshooting steps.

If you’re using QuickBooks Online, it requires you to provide more information because it’s legally mandated to collect details such as your EIN, State Tax IDs, and employee info to calculate withholdings accurately. If you prefer to handle tax payments and filings yourself, you must disable the Automated Taxes option. You can navigate to Gear > Payroll Settings > Taxes and Forms, toggle Automate taxes and forms to Off, and select your preferred filing method. Then, click Save and Done. 

For insurance prompts, you can bypass them by selecting "I’m already covered" or "I’ll fill this out later" in the Workers' Comp section.
