Question

I need a 10 digit pin to file 940 tax. The IRS says its a different number then filling 941, but yet I can't get a number from them

IRS regulates the use of PIN and has certain rules to follow before they provide you a PIN. You can use this link provided by IRS that contains the details to get a PIN: Use an On-Line Signature PIN to e-File Employment Tax Forms.

Our business has been in business for 50 plus years.  Last Friday, I tried to file our 940.  It was rejected because the SIGNATURE pin was not valid.  We have been filing for years and years with no problems.  I cannot locate a pin number  in any of our files to compare to.  I then spent 45 mintues on hold today with the IRS.  When I finally reached someone, I was told that the IRS did NOT haver a 94x signature pin on file.  I asked why and was told that someone must have been using an incorrect pin.  How does that happen.  I have been with the company for 15 years and I know there haven't been any problems.  I was told AGAIN that we needed to do a 94x signature pin application with our provider.  Does anyone have ideas on what might becausing this issue?

    Hi there, @ mkbiegs.

     

    I know this must be frustrating for you. Let's take a look to see if we can get the pin to work. If you have had successful filings in the past, could be the Credential Vault might be corrupted. To determine if this is the issue, follow a few simple steps listed below:

    1. Login at the E-file page and uncheck the Remember My Information for Next Time box.
    2. Verify and re-enter your ten digits numeric PIN you requested and received from the IRS after enrolling to e-file the 94X.
    3. Re-submit your filing.

    View further instructions to Troubleshoot e-file rejection issues for more solutions.

     

    Note: If this resolves the issue, the next time you file your 940/941, check the Remember My Information for Next Time box, so your Login information captures. Then re-entered into the Credential Vault.

     

    However, if you don't remember your pin check out, E-File 10-digit PIN lost or missing and get started with getting a new pin.

    Hi,

     

    I need some help. I used to use desktop payroll 25 yrs ago. I have a friend that just started using it. 

    The 10 digit pin, is this your password to get into eftps. I have another client that says its the password to eftps. I tried that and got rejected. I have our enrollment trace number, I remeber something about that. the first 10 digits. The IRS was useless, I waited 2hrs on hold and nothing. If anyone could quide me on where I could get or find this 10 digit pin, I would be very grateful .

    Yes, a 10 digit pin was used for E-Filing,  Mikie.

     

    I'd be happy to assists you with getting your 10 digit pin. 

     

    You can only ask for a new one through the IRS website if it's missing or lost. Once your enrollment for E-file services is approved, IRS will provide you a 10-digit PIN that you need to enter every time you e-file Federal Forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

     

    However, the IRS has certain rules to follow before they provide you a PIN. To learn more about this, you can refer to this article: Use an On-Line Signature PIN to e-File Employment Tax Forms.

     

    Also, make sure you have the most recent payroll update to avoid any disruptions while processing your E-file/E-pay in QuickBooks.
