I understand that the current setup is falling short of your expectations, and I'm committed to fixing it. To set up Qualified Overtime Tracking in QuickBooks Desktop, first make sure your payroll tax table and QuickBooks are updated. Then, head to the Company Preferences section to enable the feature and simplify your overtime management.

Once turned on, the system will automatically calculate and track overtime, eliminating the need for manual input.

To enable the feature, follow these steps:

  1. Head to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Go to Payroll & Employees.
  3. Click on the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Find the Qualified OT section and select Yes (auto calculate).

Currently, Qualified Overtime will only calculate if the multiplier is the standard 1.5 (time and a half). With this update, all other custom multipliers will be supported (such as double time). The Qualified Overtime Rate is determined as Hourly Regular Rate × 0.5, and the Quantity is calculated as the total sum of all overtime hours in a specific paycheck.

You can check this article to know more about Qualified OT Tracking:  Impact of the No Tax on Overtime provision to QuickBooks Payroll.

If you have any questions about setting up this feature or need help navigating your payroll preferences, please let me know. I'm here to ensure everything runs smoothly for you.

Does the Qualified Overtime Payroll Tracking item work if you are using time data to create paychecks? My understanding is that it only calculated OT on one payroll item and did not calculate OT correctly if there are several line items of OT and several line items of straight time on one paycheck.
