Question

QB forcing users to use their payroll tax filing and removing manual payments for payroll

Quickbooks is forcing the users to allow them to file and pay your payroll taxes and it sounds like it's mandatory.  I want to continue to file mine manually.  Is this a possibility? I keep close controls on our payments and like to pay them earlier then due dates, etc.  They mention that payroll will be cut off if you don't set it up?  Does anyone know if the ability to do things manually will be removed for sure?

Intuit QuickBooks Workforce has been rolling out a feature called Full-Service Automated Taxes (AutoTax), and yes, we encourage users to set it up. I understand that this is a significant adjustment, but note that there's currently no option to continue manually submitting payroll tax payments for the taxes affected by this update.

Automated tax handling is a standard feature of full-service payroll services. While QuickBooks will manage the payments and filings, you'll still have visibility through the Payroll Tax Center, where you can review tax amounts, upcoming withdrawals, and payment statuses.

Please be aware that this change applies to taxes with periods ending on or after July 1, 2026. Any earlier tax periods, such as Q2 taxes, will still need to be manually paid and filed with the appropriate tax agencies.

Please don't hesitate to swing by the Community if you have further questions. I'm here to clarify it for you.

Will I have the option to push my payments when I want them to go?  Although we are on a semimonthly schedule, I prefer to make payments each week following payroll.

You are unable to push or manually reschedule your tax payments.

Because you are on a semimonthly schedule, the AutoTax system will now automatically withdraw your taxes on your actual semimonthly paydays rather than allowing weekly manual payments.

While this means moving away from your preferred weekly routine, it ensures your payments are always submitted on time to meet strict tax agency deadlines.

Even though you cannot adjust the schedule, you will still have full visibility. You can check the Tax Transactions report in your Payroll Tax Center at any time to preview upcoming tax amounts and exact withdrawal dates before they occur.
