QBO draws both employee pay and all federal and state payroll tax liabilities from the single default payroll bank account you have on file. To update your ACH information, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings and then select Payroll Settings.
  2. From Bank Accounts, select Edit ✎.
  3. Select Update.
  4. Hit Add new bank account if you don't have one.
  5. Search for your bank name. You may be prompted to enter your online banking user ID and password. Otherwise, select Enter bank info manually. Enter your routing and account numbers, then select Save.
  6. Click Accept and Submit.

Before changing anything, ensure you don't have tax payments or payrolls in transit. Otherwise, the system may attempt to withdraw funds from the wrong account or cause a bounce.

Feel free to comment below if you have additional questions about updating your bank account information in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks, but it is not my bank account that needs to be updated.   It is the bank account to remit payment to NJ.

Thank you so much for clarifying that. To confirm we are on the same page, you are looking to update the designated account used to route payments directly to the State of New Jersey, rather than updating your own business bank account.

Since QuickBooks Online Payroll now manages your payroll tax filings automatically, you don't need to change your state account numbers manually. The State of New Jersey coordinates these banking updates directly with our systems to ensure your information is updated seamlessly in the background.

To keep this sensitive tax data safe, the routing and account numbers for state agencies are hidden from view. Because of these security measures, you won't see and confirm those specific details anywhere on your screen.

There is no need to worry if the system fails to deliver the funds to the new account correctly. QuickBooks Online Payroll's Tax Accuracy Guarantee acts as a financial safety net for your peace of mind. Since updating New Jersey’s routing number is entirely our responsibility on the backend network, any routing failure falls under this guarantee, leaving you fully protected from any financial harm.

To track those tax payment, you can always review your automated filing status right from your tax dashboard at the end of each quarter.

You can verify these details on the New Jersey Official Website or review the latest information in this Community Publication updated by our team.

Please don't hesitate to reply below if you still have any other questions or concerns.

I received the same noticed.
So you are saying that nothing needs to be corrected on our end? How will we know if/when it has been corrected/paid properly?
