The w-4 that sets the withholding can not be changed retroactively.  he can fill out a new one going forward.

What the w-4 withholding says has nothing to do with what he does on the IRS form 1040

Thank you for replying! Is there any way I can do to help him increase the federal withholding for the previous paychecks?

Thank you!
