We’ve called and been on hold 3 different times for about 10 hours total to try and get a hold off of literally one cent. Both times the rep told us it was taken away but it still appears on our account. It has been 5 total days. Because of that, we have been unable to do direct deposit for any of our employees or print checks because we have to order the paper. I am at my wits end and about to switch services unless we are able to speak with an expert who actually knows what they are doing .

When a payroll hold like that doesn’t clear after reps say it’s been removed, it usually means it’s stuck in QuickBooks internal risk or payments review, not the regular support queue. The front-line team can’t lift it themselves, it has to be cleared by the Payroll Risk or Payments Underwriting team. The fastest way forward is to call Payroll Support and ask specifically for a transfer to the Payroll Risk/Payments Underwriting department. Have your EIN letter, a recent bank statement, and a voided check ready - they’ll likely ask for those to verify your business and banking info.

If you need to run payroll now, switch employees to paper checks so they still get paid. You can record those payments in QuickBooks to keep taxes and reports accurate, then move back to direct deposit once the hold is gone. In most cases, once underwriting reviews the documents and verifies the account, the hold clears within 24 - 48 hours
