How do I change a description for an item that I wish to review (to categorise). Can anyone explain how I might do this?

I'd be glad to help you out in changing the description for your item. 

I take it that you're trying to edit your downloaded bank items. We're unable to edit its description since this information comes entirely from the bank's system. 

QuickBooks's Online Bank feature depends on what is being sent by your bank. Though, you do have the option to edit other information. You can edit the Memo field as a suggestion. 

Alternatively, you can check with your bank to see if you can edit the description before downloading it into QuickBooks.

However if you're referring to your stock items, you can do so by going to the Products and services page. You'll be given an option to edit the item's description and other items. You can also categorise it. Here's how: 

1. Click the Gear icon, then select Products and services.
2. Find the item, then click on Edit. 
3. Change the Description and set it under a Category. 
4. Once done, click Save and close. 

After editing your items or dealing with your bank records, you can start your reconciliation if needed: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
