How does advanced payroll pick up HMRC tax code changes?

Does Advanced Payroll pick up tax code changes from HMRC automatically? I've had P6's notified for 3 employees but their tax codes are still the same. I'm more familiar with Core Payroll where I know how it works. Is there a setting somewhere in Advanced that I need to change? Obviously I can do these manually, but just for future knowledge.

Yes. Advanced Payroll does receive tax code changes (like P6 notices) from HMRC, but unlike Core Payroll, it does not update the employee’s main profile immediately. Instead, when you create or open the next pay run, you’ll see an alert banner at the top prompting you to apply the pending P6 changes.

The new tax code is applied within that pay run, and the employee’s profile updates only after you finalise the pay run.

If the National Insurance Number or Payroll ID (Works Number) on the HMRC notice does not exactly match the employee’s profile, the automatic update will not work, and you’ll need to update the tax code manually.

For your current pay run, update the tax codes manually as needed. Going forward, look for the notification banner inside your next active pay run rather than expecting immediate changes on the employee profile page.
