I recently changed my Bank. I pay my employees through etransfer. Now I cannot match the etransfer to the payroll. How do I get back to being able to do that?

Thanks for sharing a bit about what's going on with your QuickBooks Online Payroll and matching in the bank feed after changing your bank. I know the match option in the bank feed is a great time-saver, so I want to make sure you're able to continue using it.

When it comes to matching Payroll transactions in the bank feed, the program requires more precision than some other transaction types. This means it'll be looking for things like one transaction matching one transaction, the exact date, and the exact same account. Since you mention that you changed your bank, it means you would have wanted to change the bank account for your Payroll transactions in your books as well. Here's how you can verify if that happened.

Because you're using EFT to pay your employees, it sounds like you're using Standard Payroll, so I'll go over the steps for that module below.

1. Select the Gear icon.
2. Choose Payroll settings.
3. Click Accounting under the Preferences section.
4. Verify the Bank account chosen.
5. Select the down arrow button beside the field if you need to change it.
6. Choose the account you need.
7. Click OK at the bottom of the page to save.

To handle any funds that are incorrectly in the old account, there are a couple of options you can consider. You can move the funds using the Transfer feature or a journal entry, either as a lump sum or as individual amounts so you'll be able to match in the bank feed. It's important to pay particular attention to dates in this instance so you can either match or simply reconcile later without issue.

It's also of note that you don't need to match transactions from the bank feed and can exclude them instead, which may be useful in this scenario. All the matching does is what I like to call a "soft reconcile." It lets the program know that you are acknowledging that this transaction in QuickBooks is also in your bank account, which speeds up the process when you go to reconcile the account later.

If you exclude a transaction from the bank feed instead of matching it, it'll simply mean that you'll have to manually do the reconciliation later by comparing the reconcile window against your bank statement and checking off the amounts.
