Making sure taxes that are and aren't withheld from your employees go to the appropriate account ensures accuracy across your books. Online Payroll automatically tracks your payroll expenses and liabilities to specific accounts assigned in your settings. I'll be happy to share more on this. In case you'll like to change a payroll liability account for a particular payroll tax in your books to a payroll expense account, here's how to proceed.
Go to Settings, then Payroll Settings.
Select Accounting under the Company and Account section.
Identify your payroll tax and assign new accounts as needed.
If you're not using Online Payroll, or you're instead manually recording payroll transactions in your books, you can either access the transaction you did and open it to edit or use a journal entry to reverse. It's always a good practice to have an accountant besides when doing journal entries. You can easily invite an accountant to your books or find one in your area. Just head to the My Accountant tab to get started, then select Find a pro to help. I hope this helps! You're always welcome to stop by if you need anything else.
