I’m sorry you're facing these issues. Here’re some steps to follow, hopefully, this solves your issues and gets you back on track.
If your desktop is having a "not responding" message on your tab, I would suggest that you restart the software and try to perform the task again, that you were working on, if it was not saved.
However, for your screen maximize issue sometimes this restart (mentioned above) can help reset your screen issues or you can follow these troubleshooting steps below.
Right-click the QuickBooks icon on the desktop.
Look for QBW.32.
Click send to desktop.
Right-click the QBW.32 file and change it to *MAXIMIZE*.
Click the compatibility tab.
Run with (choose the computer OS) then run as admin.
Click Apply, then Ok.
