QuickBooks Online is moving all of its reports from the Classic view to a new, upgraded Modern view. Reporting is a critical part of running a successful business, and this major update is designed to make your financial reporting faster, simpler, and much more robust.

Here is everything you need to know about the transition, what new features to expect, and how to start pulling deeper insights into your business performance.

The Transition Timeline: What to Expect

The Classic reporting platform has served customers well for years, but as businesses grow, systems must evolve to keep up. After May 22, 2026, the Classic version of the reports will be entirely retired, making Modern view the sole reporting experience across all Intuit products, including QuickBooks Online, Intuit Accountant Suite, and Intuit Enterprise Suite.

Here is how the transition will roll out:

  • Mid-April to May 22, 2026: You will still be able to open reports in the Classic view, but you will no longer be able to save new customizations in the Classic interface. If you make changes to a Classic report and try to save them, the system will prompt you to switch to the Modern view first.
  • May 22, 2026: Over 150 standard reports will automatically open in the Modern view, and the option to toggle back to Classic will be permanently removed.

If you have customized reports saved in your account, you do not need to do a single thing to save your work. Your custom reports will be transitioned automatically in batches. All of your data, specific filters, and customizations will seamlessly carry over to the new layout.

Why the Big Move? The switch to Modern reports comes down to improved performance and capabilities. The new architecture handles large amounts of data far more efficiently, allows Intuit to roll out new features much faster, and provides clearer insights like dashboard key performance indicators.

Your actual data does not change. You still have full control over reporting periods, accounting methods, filters, comparisons, and toggles for active and zero-value rows. The foundation remains the same, but the platform has been significantly upgraded.

Exciting New Features and Improvements The Modern view brings several fantastic upgrades to your workflow:

  • Visual Enhancements: You can now add almost any attribute column, utilize new grouping and pivot options, and view your data visually in charts. Higher-tier plans, like QuickBooks Online Advanced and Intuit Enterprise Suite, also get access to color-coded columns, banded rows, and flexible gridlines.
  • Smarter Drill-Downs: When you drill down into a transaction for finer details and go back, your customizations now stay perfectly in place. Plus, an auto-refresh feature ensures your report updates automatically if you modify a transaction during a drill-down.
  • Streamlined Layout: To give your data more space, the top panel has been made smaller. Your most-used options, like "Display columns by" and "Compare to," are directly in the header, while other customization tools are housed in a dedicated right-side panel.
  • Smoother Navigation: You can use Ctrl+F (or Command+F on a Mac) to search for specific data, and hover your mouse in the white space to scroll through the entire page. Reports like the General Ledger and Trial Balance now follow the standard accounting order, and zero-balance rows are hidden by default for a cleaner look.

Even more improvements are coming before the May 22 cutoff, including faster report loading speeds, the ability to expand and collapse sub-accounts, non-truncated columns, exporting with formulas, and simple date headers.

Don't wait until the deadline, start exploring the Modern View Reports today so you can pull crucial business insights faster than ever before.
