You can start by creating a backup copy of your 9-year old company data before converting it to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how:

1. Download and install a trial version of the latest QuickBooks Desktop.
2. Open your company file and then go to the File menu.
3. Select Open or Restore Company.
4. Choose Restore a backup copy.
5. Find and open the backup copy of your 9-year old company data.
6. Click Open.
7. Choose Save.
