What file format do you need to import? qbo, csv, or else?

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community forum, Akinola.

This error occurs when QuickBooks is unable to process the uploaded file due to formatting or data mismatches. In this case, you can review the file guidelines below to ensure a smooth and successful upload:

  • The uploaded file must be in English and under 350 KB.
  • Each file must include either three columns: Date, Description, Amount, or four columns: Date, Description, Credit, and Debit.
  • Rename column headers to match QuickBooks' titles exactly.
  • Remove the word Amount from the Credit and Debit column headers.
  • Leave cells in AmountCredit, or Debit blank if they contain only zero.
  • Remove numbers from cells in the Description column.
  • Ensure all dates follow a consistent format, such as dd/mm/yyyy.
  • Some banks include the day of the week in the Date column (e.g., 20/11/2018 TUE). If this occurs, separate the date and day into two columns.

For larger uploads, try shortening the date range and downloading transactions in smaller batches. Also, keep in mind that not all banks format their CSV files in the same way, so you may need to adjust the formatting accordingly.

Here’s an additional reference to ensure your CSV or data is properly formatted: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments, try reimporting the file.
