Can't restore accountant's copy in QB pro plus 2022 desktop

I have just purchased QB Pro Plus 2022. A client has sent me their Accountant's Copy of their file and I need to restore their file. When I open the QB file it gives me the option to Open a Company File, Restore a backup copy or Restore a portable file. On prior QB versions, I could restore an accountant's copy, but it doesn't give me that option with this version. Can someone please help??? QB and Intuit have been less than helpful. I have spoken and chatted with 4 reps an no one understands what I need or will help me.

Let me help you fix this in no time, fthorpe1.

The client and accountant should use the same version or year of QuickBooks Desktop to use the Accountant's Copy feature. In your case, you'll need to have an Accountant edition to restore their file.

Once you have the accountant edition , you can follow the instruction on how to restore a backup of your company file, here's the link: Restore a backup of your company file

For future reference, read through these articles to guide you more on how to use accountant's copy:

Hi thanks for this, but this answer wasn't quite what I was looking for.

Apparently, I needed to purchase the Accountant Edition not the Pro version of QBD. I have purchased it now and am able to open the Accountant's Copy.

It wasn't possible to restore Accountant's Copy from Pro Plus.

Thanks for getting back to the thread, @fthorpe1. I'm here to share details and will help you with your accountant 's copy in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you want to create an Accountant's copy, you'll need to make sure it's compatible with the QuickBooks versions you're using. The customer and accountant should ideally be using the same version or year of QuickBooks Desktop when using the Accountant's Copy feature.

Furthermore, while there is only a one-year difference in versions and the accountant has a more recent version, you can still work on the Accountant's Copy using a different version.

Please visit this article for additional information of if you have clarifications: Use the Accountant's Copy.

I am having a similar problem.  I have sent my client the changes from an Accountant's copy and they are not able to restore the file.  The client is using the same version.

Let me make it up to you by ensuring that your client can restore the Accountant's copy, PostMiller.

Let's have your client make sure that he follows the necessary steps to restore the changes to an Accountant's copy.

Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File and select Send Company File.
  2. Choose Accountant's Copy, then Client Activities.
  3. If your accountant sent you their changes in an Accountant’s Changes file, select Import Accountant Changes from File. Browse your computer for the file. It should have a .qby extension at the end of the filename.

To learn more about the process, check this article: Import your accountant's changes into your company file in QBDT.

Keep me updated. I want to ensure your success.

This is absolutely worthless advice.  I paid a small fortune for QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022 and now you tell me that in order to download a QBX transfer file from a different QB desktop version I have to purchase THAT version also??  NO WAY IN HELL I WILL DO THAT.  The more I deal with Intuit, their nonstop greed and pitiful support, the more I keep being driven toward looking elsewhere.  Intuit sucks, period.

Wow... not happy!

I use QB for my personal companies and 2021 Desktop was sufficient.

I am not a professional bookkeeper, though I do review the QB entries, make adjustment and reconcile the bank accountants for one client each month.  Because we had different versions of QB, we both upgraded to the subscription version of 2022.  Last month she sent me an Accountant's Copy, which I was able to open!  Having determined that I wanted to make significant changes to the Chart of Accountants, I was pretty confident that if they made changes before I sent back the revised Accountant's File it would cause a conflict.  I asked QB support how to cancel the Accountant's Copy, and was instructed on how to do do.  I then asked the client to send me the Portable File and I would make the changes in one weekend and and get it back before they needed to make entries.  Apparently, as I was told, they too needed to cancel the Accountant's Company File.  I was sent a new Accountant's  Copy last week.  Today, when I went to open the to convert the Accountant's Copy using my Desktop Pro Plus 2022 edition, there is not option to open an Accountant's Copy.  I'm reading NOW that I need to purchase an Accountant's Version of Desktop Pro 2022!  Is this correct?  I just purchased Desktop Pro Plus 2022 for this singular client, and now QuickBooks wants me to pay more $$ for something that worked last month?  I was "sold" after extensive discussion and confirmation, Desktop Pro Plus 2022 that worked one time.  Did QB support somehow remove the option from my subscription, or did QB change the offering in Desktop Pro Plus 2022?

Hello @lg_dg,

Thank you for providing detailed information about the Pro Plus 2022 version. I would also feel the same after upgrading to an updated version of the Desktop program.

I'm here to help you import accountant's changes in QuickBooks Desktop. Ideally, users using the Pro Plus 2022 version should have an option to open the accountant's changes.

For now, I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps to isolate and fix the problem. Please start by updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Aside from improving the performance of the software, this process also fixes unusual behaviors in the program. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner, then select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select the updates you want to include.
  4. Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  5. Hit Get Updates. Download and install automatic QuickBooks Desktop updates
  6. Close and re-open QuickBooks.

Once done, verify if the option is now available for you to upload the changes. If the problem persists, let's proceed with running the Verify Data and Verify Rebuild tools.

These features in QuickBooks will help self-identify data issues within a company file and self-resolve them using Rebuild Data.

To run Verify Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.

Next, please run the Rebuild Data option through these steps:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Rebuild.

After following the recommended steps, restart your QuickBooks and open the file again. If all else fails, it would be best to contact our QuickBooks Support Team for further assistance.

They can provide additional troubleshooting or clarify about not being able to import the changes back to the Pro Plus version. Our Customer Support Team for Pro, Premier, Plus is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday). For Enterprise, any time, any day. See the steps to get a hold of a specialist:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Enter your concern, then hit Continue.
  5. Choose Get a callback.

You can also check this link for more details about how to use the QuickBooks Tool Hub to repair QuickBooks: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Drop me a comment below if you have other questions about the program features or importing accountant's changes. I'll be happy to help you some more.

Has any had any problems with QBs 2022 not being able to send accountants change file back to client?

July 14, 2023

I just learned that when you don't pay the new price of $799 (up 40% in 2023) intuit removes the incorporate accountants changes from all the past software you've already paid for, even those that are not subscription (2021 and before)!! Intuit's management is a bunch of SOB's! I'm going to switch my clients out of quickbooks. These people are predators'!

And this is the 3rd call about this issue and NONE of the other support people told me this!!%$%$@$
