Before we start, please download the installer for your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version and have your license key available. Also, verify that your computer meets the system requirements for QBDT to ensure a seamless installation. Additionally, I recommend backing up your data beforehand to ensure safety and security.

If you're installing or transferring your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to a new computer, you can utilize the migrator tool. This tool assists in moving QBDT and up to three company files to another computer. To set it up, please ensure your new device is connected to the internet and that you have a USB flash drive with sufficient space available. Once ready, follow these steps:

On your old computer

1. Open your Old QuickBooks Desktop, then go to File and select Utilities, and choose Move QuickBooks to another computer. 
2. Choose I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions on choosing your USB, then wait for the files to be copied.

On your new computer

1. Insert the USB flash drive. Due to Windows security settings, the Migrator Tool will not launch automatically.
2. Navigate to the flash drive to access its files and double-click on Move_QuickBooks.bat to initiate the migrator.
3. Enter the password you previously set and click on Let's go.
4. Allow some time for the Migrator Tool to complete its process. The duration will vary based on your computer's speed, internet connectivity, and the size of your company file.

Once you've transferred your QBDT files to the new computer, please note that the tool does not transfer all information. To ensure your QBDT functions smoothly, additional steps may be necessary. Alternatively, if you prefer not to use the migration tool, you can manually reinstall your company data to a new computer to do this, please follow the steps below: 

1. Make sure to keep your product license information available. 
2. Uninstall the existing QuickBooks application before trying a reinstallation. Also, please ensure to back up your company data prior to removal to safeguard your information.
3. On the computer where you intend to install QuickBooks Desktop, either download the installation files or insert the installation CD.
4. Once done, install QBDT as you normally would.
5. If you use payroll, download the latest tax table after you move your file.
