Hi there, fer1014. To fix the message you received, you’ll want to end the QuickBooks process using the Windows Task Manager first. Then, ensure you're switched to a Single-user Mode before trying again.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Look for the option that says Switch to Single-User ModeIf the menu option displays as Switch to Multi-User Mode, you are already in the right set up.

If the issue persists, you can download and run the QuickBooks Tool Hub to resolve common startup problems. But if you still received the same error, you may consider deleting the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file. This is where QuickBooks stores your license and user count information, and deleting it resets the maximum number of users. Here's how:

  1. Prepare your product and license info, then close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click your Windows Start menu.
  3. Enter Run in the search box and select Run.
  4. Type C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8, then tick Enter. If this doesn't open a folder, enter C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6 instead.
  5. Right-click the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file and select Delete, then Yes.
  6. Open QuickBooks Desktop and your company file, then follow the prompts to re-register using your product and license details.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have further concerns. We’re here to assist you.
