No, but if you use the QBO desktop app, it never closes itself like the browser version does. Otherwise they are mostly identical

Not true. Desktop glitches all the time for me and shuts down, erasing whatever you're working on that's unsaved. Now you know what the 1990s felt like, before computers had autosave. My Dell Computer rep said that sometimes if a computer on a network is running Windows Home while the others are running Windows Pro, it will cause a glitch. Either way, it's a colossal hassle and evidence of how little improvement Intuit has made to this program over the decades.

Hi @swecollc,

Nice to see you in the Community. I'm here to help with the system logging you off.

@Malcolm Ziman has provided a good suggestion of utilizing the QuickBooks Online Desktop App, which allows you to stay logged on indefinitely. You can locate information about this, and download it, at the following link: Get QuickBooks Mac & Windows Apps, Powered by QuickBooks Online.

Another option that you may wish to consider is adjusting the time required to be signed out for inactivity, which can be changed up to 3 hours. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced on the left side of the page.
  3. Click the Pencil icon that's located in the Other preferences section.
  4. Select the drop-down next to Sign me out if inactive and choose the preferred amount of time.
  5. Click Save then Done.

I've included a picture to serve as a visual reference:

For further insight into this, including how inactivity is measured, please see the following article: Change the Timeout Duration in QuickBooks Online.

That's it. I believe these resources will help you with staying signed in.

Hello there, @LusATM.

I appreciate you joining the Community today. Allow me to address your concern about adding an autosave feature in QuickBooks Online.

Currently having the autosave option in QuickBooks Online isn't available. For now, you can try the workarounds provided by Malcolm Ziman and DavidSC above.

I can see how this feature would be beneficial for you and to your business. I'd encourage you sharing this idea to our Developers so they'll be able to determine those features that needs to be added in future updates. Doing this helps them assess how we can help you run your business easier. I will also do my part and raise this concern so this will be taken cared of.

You can visit our QuickBooks Online Blog to be updated about our latest happenings. Through this, you're able to get the newest news, features, and updates about QuickBooks Online and what our Product Care Team is working on.

Please know that the Community has your back should you need anything else. Have a great day!

I just lost 3 hours of work!! Complete garbage! Get your heads out of your A$$ and create an autosave feature morons! They're too busy trying to sell you the next year of garbage they're creating to fix their junk. All they care about is the new subscribers and once they have you they drag their feet to fix anything.

I've had the same thing happen twice, only I was sitting there typing in very detailed descriptions for the estimate and searching RS Means data to validate pricing. Apparently QuickBooks does not view you adding line items to an estimate as "activity." Here is the most laughable thing, the QuickBooks forum just autosaved my reply here but in the Year Of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty, they cannot autosave an estimate to complete on re-login if they log you out!! At MINIMUM it should at least prompt you on the alledged inactivity before it screws you over. This is a severely screwed up UX. This is basic stuff Intuit. Very basic stuff to deliver a good user experience over a crappy one.

Just had the same thing. Created a big invoice only when I went to save it it logged me out and nopw all the work is lost. Why no auto save?

Such a bad program. Cancelling service for something that actually works.

Don't buy shiitbooks

I've lost COUNTLESS HOURS to this silly idiosyncrasy. This is NOT another attempt to help intuit understand the scale of this problem. This is an attempt by a good Samaritan to KEEP OTHERS AWAY!

Thank you Intuit for making it SO EASY TO LEAVE!

I've used QB for 15 years. In that time, it has been the cause of so much anger and frustration, has cost me SO MUCH TIME AND MONEY, but putting the time and energy into finding & learning something new has kept me locked in.

NO MORE!

I've blocked off time in my calendar to find a new solution and urge as many people as possible to do the same. I am a technologist by trade, employed by a large MSP as a high level system integrator.

I will NEVER suggest an Intuit product again. I haven't recommended QB to anyone in years, but still find myself integrating it into a solution sporadically, when a customer isn't comfortable with anything else. Never again! QB is officially demoted to a list of software we will not support because of how much trauma it causes, in the same bucket as torrent software and undocumented legacy applications.

No response necessary on this one... we are a lost cause.

Goodby.

All of these unresolved issues with QBO have led me to the conclusion that either Intuit does not have anyone that can program their systems or their base level software is so inflexible that making any changes is nearly impossible. It is probably a combination of both. We are almost finished transitioning everything to Zoho Books and very happy so far. I have not logged into QBO in months and definitely don't miss these constant frustrations.  In full disclosure I checked and in Zoho Books you still have to save an invoice, etc before leaving but the website isn't constantly logging you off every few hours. I really only have to log back in when I close the browser or restart my computer. Also the Zoho apps are so much more capable and don't feel like there are so many things I can only do on a computer browser.  Zoho definitely has some issues that they haven't fixed after years of complaints as well but I haven't found a deal breaker I couldn't work around. Every software platform is imperfect but hopefully you find one that has minor annoyances instead of glaring problems.
