Missing PDF Component

I just moved my Desktop 2024 Pro Plus to a new laptop. The new computer has Windows 11.  I can email an invoice, and it is showing that the invoice is supposed to be attached, but the invoice does not show up as a preview and it is not attached when the email is sent.  When I log in to QuickBooks I get a warning that says QuickBooks detected that a component required to create PDF files is missing.  It will email just no attachment of the invoice.

Hi missmissySEI, it’s great to hear that you’ve upgraded to a new device.

It seems there is a communication issue between your new computer and QuickBooks. Let’s check the components that may be causing this.

QuickBooks may fail to generate PDFs for preview or attachment, resulting in an error message due to the following reasons:

  • Outdated version of QuickBooks.
  • Missing or damaged Adobe Reader application.
  • An outdated version of Adobe Reader.
  • Microsoft XPS Document Writer is turned off in Windows settings.

To address this, please verify that the necessary software components listed above are properly installed, enabled, and up to date. If needed, consider reaching out to an expert for assistance with the Adobe Reader or Microsoft settings.

You can refer to this article to get the latest QBDT: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

If the issue persists after verification, you can use the QuickBooks Tool Hub to fix common problems. For step-by-step guidance, please refer to this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or require additional assistance.

@missmissySEI

Go to Control Panel/Programs/Turn Windows features on or off, then scroll down to Microsoft Print to PDF and Microsoft XPS Document Viewer. Make sure both boxes are checked.

I did that now I am locked out of QuickBooks. I get an error message that says I do not have sufficient permission for the specified folder. To use QuickBooks in a multi-user environment you must have read write access. Now I can't get in QuickBooks.

Can you log into Windows as Administrator?
